WILMINGTON- Walter R. Lackey, 81, a resident of Rist Road, died peacefully on Friday, December 1, with his wife Priscilla at his side. He was born in Brattleboro to Raymond and Maxine (Smith) Lackey on January 12, 1936. Mr. Lackey attended school in Wilmington, graduated Wilmington High School in 1953, and attended from Northampton Commercial College for two years. Mr. Lackey enlisted with the US Army in 1958 and was stationed at Fort Dix, NJ.

Mr. Lackey married the former Priscilla Lumbra on February 7, 1959, at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilmington. He worked as a bookkeeper and parts counter clerk at various automobile dealerships in the area, and retired from Auto Mall in Brattleboro in 1992.

Mr. Lackey was an outdoors man beginning in his early years, he especially loved hunting and fishing. In his later years, he enjoyed playing cards, improvising music on his guitar, doing crossword puzzles, and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Priscilla Lackey, of Wilmington; three children, Douglas Lackey, of Wardsboro; Diane Marchionna, of Spofford, NH; and Donna Lackey, of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Amanda Lackey, of Wardsboro; David Lackey, of Wardsboro; Madeleine Marchionna, of Burlington; Thomas Marchionna, of Wilmington; and Katrina Aldrich, of Wilmington; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jazmyn Albanese, of Wardsboro.

He was preceded in death by his sister Patricia, who died in infancy; his parents, Raymond and Maxine Lackey; grandparents, Ralph and Charlotte Smith; an aunt, Dulcena Jacobs; and two cousins, Nelson Jacobs and Steven Jacobs.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, at 11 am at the Riverview Cemetery with Rev. Marcia Dorey officiating.
