KEENE, NH- Elizabeth “Liz” A. (Phelps) Trombley, 82, a longtime resident of Hinsdale, and formerly of Holyoke, MA, died on Thursday, July 27, at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene. She died peacefully after a period of declining health with the love and compassion of her large family at her side.

Mrs. Trombley was born the daughter of the late Lillian (Tetreault) and Howard Phelps on April 16, 1935, in Readsboro, VT, where she attended high school.

On July 28, 1979, she exchanged vows with Floyd A. Trombley, in Agawam, MA. They were married in a simple service with close family and friends in attendance. They have been married for just one day shy of their 38th anniversary. She was the former owner of Liz’s Day Care in Holyoke, MA. She owned and operated the business for 20 years until retirement in 1990. She was a member of the Readsboro First Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading and traveled with her husband. Time was spent in the kitchen, where she was an accomplished cook. She was well-known by family and friends for her fudge and ground bologna. Her passion in life was her kids and, in time, grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Trombley is survived by her husband, Floyd A. Trombley Sr., of Hinsdale; her 10 children, Jimmy E. Crosby and his wife Jeanne, of Granby, MA, David R. Crosby and his wife Cathy, of Soddy-Daisy, TN; Freddie T. Crosby and his wife Kathy, of Charlotte, NC; Bill J. Crosby and his wife Denise, of Chicopee, MA, Floyd “Chipper” Trombley Jr. and his wife Diane, of Granby, MA, Cathy M. Cote of Springfield, MA, Jody A. Crosby, of Hinsdale; Betty I. Crosby, of Hinsdale; Laura L. LaBonte and her husband Steven, of South Hadley, MA, and Lisa M. Crosby of Springfield, MA; and her siblings, Mildred Brewer, Barbara Birch, Norma Brown, and Maryanne Moon. In addition, she leaves 33 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Clayton, Richard, and Ronald Phelps, and her sister, Norma Brown.

In keeping with her wishes there were no calling hours. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, August 5, in the First Baptist Church in Readsboro. All services were under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Home and Crematories of Swanzey, www.cheshirefamilyfh.com.
