To the Editor,

In order to thank those who have contributed to the fund and to keep the general public informed, we publish our expenditures at the end of each winter season. From September, 2016 through April 2017, the DVCC spent $61,014.85 on various types of fuel for people within the Deerfield Valley. There were a total of 88 families helped. The breakdown of families was as follows: Wilmington 26, Jacksonville 12, Marlboro 12, Dover 11, Halifax 8, Whitingham 8, Readsboro 5, Wardsboro 4 and Searsburg 2.

Raising the money to provide this help becomes more difficult each year, To those of you who have helped us, we are very grateful for your generosity. We are particularly grateful to the members of the Propane Dover fuel buying group who contribute $50 to the fund each year when joining the buying group. This past winter, they contributed a total of $47,075 Over the past six years, Propane Dover members have given us $209,850. There is no way to thank you all enough. For anyone interested in joining the Propane Dover buying group for next winter, you can get information by contacting Jim McDevitt at propanedover@gmail.com He is already taking sign-ups for next winter.

We hope that you will join us for our major fundraising event this summer. The “Best Dam Walk in Vermont” is an enjoyable way to take a walk, or a run, a long one, or a short one, and get your friends to sponsor you to help us raise money for next winter. This year the date has been set for Saturday, August 26. This event will be held rain or shine, and information is available on the website at bestdamwalk.com. The Deerfield Valley Rotary Club has stepped up to raise funds for the DVC, and they are using various methods to increase participation in the Dam Walk. Our annual fundraising letter will be going out in mid-June, with details and contact information on the walk.

Once again, I want to thank all of you who have supported the DVCC over the years. Without your help, we would cease to exist.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan M. Spengler
