Speaker Paul Ryan pulled, thankfully, the “plan” to gut Medicare and the Affordable Care Act last Friday just before it was to go for a vote. We, the majority of Americans, got a brief reprieve. Now we must use the time wisely.
The Washington “leaders” know how to fix the Affordable Care Act, Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid. Yes, it does mean a bit of higher taxation. On the top 5%. The Koch brothers, the DeVos family, the wealthiest of the wealthy. Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid can also be fixed easily. Remove the cap on contributions and get the same percentage on all income, not just the first, what, $150,000? And none thereafter?
Sure, there is a cap on how much one gets after retirement. But, if one is making millions, I’m not feeling bad about that cap.
Look, I’ll make this real personal. I’m 66 and get Social Security. If Medicare gets gutted my medication and doctor visits will cost me more out of pocket. That means we (my wife and I) will not be able to afford the three or four times a year we splurge on take-out food, Chinese, pizza, or whatever. That’s a loss to local businesses. There’s many folks like us here in the valley. Multiply that loss of our custom by that many people. Suddenly the sinkhole appears.
Pretty much everyone buys mail order. Email them with this if you are retired or disabled. These companies will also lose business income due to less discretionary money. Only to save money for the top 5%. In what dimension does this make sense? Oh, right, the dimension where a family donates $200 million to a political party and gets a Cabinet Post in return. The DeVos family did that. That would be this dimension.
They know how to fix it. But, like prostitutes, they’ve been rented for the occasion.
