It might seem like a well-worn mantra to many readers, but we still feel it is worth repeating:

Shopping local is one of the best things we can all do for the community.

Shopping local supports friends and neighbors who own or work for local businesses, stimulates the economy, keeps jobs in the valley, and circulates money throughout our local towns.

Studies show that money spent with locally-owned business is twice as likely to be returned to the community a number of times. Money spent online or with a large chain store at a regional shopping mecca flows out of the community and does not come back.

Another benefit of shopping with locally-owned businesses is a little more intangible, but still valuable nonetheless: Locally-owned businesses are usually owned and operated by friends and neighbors, and so shopping locally is an opportunity to connect with the community. The same people we may see at a local school, church, or community group may also be the people behind the counter. By shopping locally, we’re continuing to keep the loops of community closed, and building deeper relationships within those circles.

We understand that not everything can be purchased locally. Such is the nature of living in a small town. It’s not that everything has to be purchased here. It’s just that we encourage folks to look local first. You might be amazed what you find right here close to home.
