NEWFANE- Kathleen A. K. Moore, 53, a resident of Dover Road in South Newfane, died Thursday, September 26, while returning from work as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Newfane. Mrs. Moore was born in Lowell, MA, on November 1, 1959 to David and Irene (Walker) Kelley. Due to her father’s profession, the family moved frequently. She attended schools in New York, Quebec, and was a graduate of Mt. Mansfield High School. She continued her education attending Champlain College in Burlington where she majored in office and secretarial studies. Mrs. Moore met and married David Moore in Underhill on July 21, 1984. They relocated to South Newfane in 1989 to care for his mother and start a family.

Mrs. Moore was a very active and much loved member of her community, always helping wherever she was needed. She and Mr. Moore cared for 65 foster children, giving them loving kind, care and helping them through a difficult part of their lives. As a young woman, she spent a year in Greece working as a nanny. She was a longtime active member of East Dover Baptist Church where she sang joyously with the worship team and a leader in AWANA. In addition she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gideons. She loved collecting clown memorabilia, carousels, and scrapbooking.

Diagnosed with cancer five years ago, she fought a valiant fight to overcome it. She battled it as she maintained her home, activities, and work. She loved spending family time at camp in Pemequid, ME, and was an accomplished painter. She excelled at anything she did and for many years was a floral designer working in flower shops in Underhill, Stop and Shop in Greenfield, Taylor for Flowers in Brattleboro, Riverbend Market in Townshend and her own shop, Designing Woman in West Dover. For the past several years she had worked at Staples as the manager in the copy center, recently receiving a letter of recognition for her excellent skills in her department. For four years she had been the cake decorating instructor for Wilton Cake Decorating Company. She truly enjoyed cooking with her husband and children.

She was the beloved wife and best friend of David whose only goal in life was to grow old together. She also leaves their son Ben Moore and granddaughter, Gracelyn Moore; daughter Kylee Shatrau, of Brattleboro; her parents David and Irene Kelley, of Underhill; sisters, Ellen and husband Dale Billado, Beth and husband Ron Racine, and Colleen and husband Eric Mjaatvedt; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marie Williams of Jacksonville; sisters-in-law, Tillie Moore of Readsboro and Loraine Moore, of Indian Lake, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by Richard and Joseph Moore.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 5, at 11am, at the East Dover Baptist Church. Burial will take place in the South Newfane Cemetery. Friends may call at the Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 pm when the family will be present.

Although she loved flowers, should friends desire memorial gifts may be made to Vermont chapter of the American Cancer Society in care of Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral Home, PO Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363.
