BENNINGTON- On Sunday, July 21, at 2 pm, the Bennington Historical Society presents “Hail to the Chief: The American President in Vermont,” a visual presentation given by Vermont Historical Society executive director Mark Hudson. This program will be held in the Ada Paresky Education Center located on the second floor of the Bennington Museum. It is free and open to the public.

Hudson has had an interest in the American presidency since childhood, so it is only fitting that he present many of his stories on presidential visits to Vermont. Whether by birth, personal relationships, campaign stops or “just passing through,” Vermont has held an unusual and interesting relationship with American presidents. Benjamin Harrison spoke at the dedication of the Bennington Battle Monument, and Calvin Coolidge gave his “I love Vermont” speech at the Depot Street Station, but there were so many others. Hudson, through his illustrated presentation, will share these and other stories of Vermont’s, and Bennington’s, encounters with the nation’s chief executives.

Mark Hudson has served as Vermont Historical Society’s executive director for four years. He has had an interest in the American presidency since childhood. Raised in Kansas, he has fond memories of family visits to the nearby Eisenhower and Truman presidential libraries. Prior to coming to Vermont, Hudson served as executive director for the Historical Society of Frederick County, MD, and as the curator of the Boone County Historical Society in Missouri. He holds a BA degree in history and communication studies and a Master of Historical Administration and Museum Studies from the University of Kansas and an MA in library science from the University of Missouri.

Regular admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and students over 18. Children, students 18 or younger, and visitors to the Museum Shop are admitted free. Visit the museum’s website www.benningtonmuseum.org or call (802) 447-1571 for more information.
