WILMINGTON- Edythe Buchberg, 86, died peacefully surrounded by her family: daughter Ilene Wax, son-in-law Gary, and sons Alan, Arthur and Jay, and grandchildren, Dara and Jenne on Sunday, February 24, at Southwest Vermont Medical Center.

She had spent the last four years at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Buchberg was born on February 3, 1927, in Richmond Hill, NY. She was the youngest of four sisters and one brother. She graduated from Queens College with a BA in business. She married Seymour Buchberg on July 4, 1948. She was very social and spent her time volunteering on many community and school committees. She was an active member of Hadassah. Throughout her children’s schooling she was the president of the PTA. Mrs. Buchberg was always very proud of her children: Ilene a teacher, Alan a contractor, Arthur a cancer researcher, and Jay an engineer. She leaves nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, reading, committee work, and spending time with her family.

After spending 82 years in New York City, Mrs. Buchberg moved to Vermont to live. While there was a time when she and Seymour thought Vermont was not a place to live and raise a family, she came to love her new home. She loved her new friends, the medical system, the care she received from the medical profession and, in general, the kind and caring people in the community. She especially loved her trips with MOOver volunteers to various doctor’s appointments. She also loved her friends from Bone Builders, and from playing bridge on Tuesday afternoons. She also loved spending time with Claudia, her caregiver.

Mrs. Buchberg leaves daughter Ilene and husband Gary Wax, of Wilmington; sons, Alan, of Baldwin Harbor, NY, Jay and wife Susan Buchberg, of Plainview, NY, and Arthur and wife Linda Siracusa, of Cherry Hill, NJ. Grandchildren, Dara and husband Dan, Jenne and friend Fernando, Emily, Kyle, Johanna, Jonathan, Dillon, Bari, and Matthew. Great-grandchildren, Leo and Sam. She was predeceased by her husband, Seymour, her five siblings, and her daughter-in-law, Lynes.

A service following the Jewish faith was Wednesday, February 27, at 11:30 am, at Sinai Funeral Chapel, Fresh Meadows, NY. The customary shiva will be at Jay Buchberg’s home on Thursday and Friday and at Ilene’s on Sunday and Monday. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the RP Foundation (Foundation Fighting Blindness), P.O. Box 17279,Baltimore, MD 21297-0495, or the Scleroderma Foundation, 462 Boston Street, Topsfield, MA 01983-1239.
