A resident of Newbury, Lea has been described as “A man in the woods with his head full of books, and a man in books with his head full of woods.” Experienced in several genres, Lea founded the “New England Review” in 1977 and continued to edit the publication until 1989. One of his nine previous poetry collections, “Pursuit of a Wound” (University of Illinois Press, 2000), was among three finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in poetry. He was co-winner of the 1998 Poets Prize for the preceding volume, “To the Bone: New and Selected Poems.” His other writings are “A Place in Mind” (Scribner) and “Hunting the Whole Way Home” (University Press of New England, 1994).
