FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Gloria (Atherton) Coe, of North Carolina and West Palm Beach, FL, died unexpectedly Tuesday December 4, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.

Mrs. Coe was born in Wakefield, RI, on September 22, 1956, daughter of the late Everett and Muriel (Dixon) Atherton. As a young girl, she with her family moved to Wilmington, VT, and then to Jacksonville, VT. She attended schools in Wilmington and Whitingham and graduated from Whitingham High School in 1974. On July 4, 1976, she was married to Gary H. Coe at the Old Coach Inn in Readsboro. In 1977 she and her family took up residence in Readsboro.

Mrs. Coe was primarily a wife, mother, and homemaker. She attended the Readsboro Baptist Church. After leaving Readsboro in 1987, she lived in Shelburne, and moved to West Palm Beach, FL in 1996. She has lived in Spring Lake since 2010. Mrs. Coe enjoyed reading, writing, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Coe is survived by her husband of 36 years, Gary H. Coe, of West Palm Beach, FL; her brother, James Atherton, of North Adams, MA; four children, Tiffani Coe and Guy Coe, of West Palm Beach, FL, Matthew Coe, of Spring Lake, and Elizabeth (Coe) Vaughn, of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Mrs. Coe was preceeded in death by her parents, Everett and Muriel Atherton, her sister, Diane Lefebvre, nephew, David Lefebvre and father-in-law, Melvin Coe.

A memorial service for Mrs. Coe will be held at the Readsboro Baptist Church on Saturday December 15, at 11 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
