To the Editor:

The Friends of the Wardsboro Library want to thank everyone who attended the 10th annual Gilfeather Turnip Festival on Saturday, October 27. It was a wonderful fall day and turnip shoppers were there by the hundreds to buy turnips, seeds, and turnip-logo souvenirs, and to enjoy Gilfeather turnip soup and tastings. The generosity of the following merchants helped to offset expenses: Shaw’s of Wilmington, Shaw’s of Manchester, Walmart, Price Chopper, Green Mountain Orchards, Green Mountain Coffee, Westminster Crackers, Wardsboro Country Store, and Dutton’s. Thanks to everyone who prepared and served the delicious tastings and soup. The crafters and farmers’ market vendors added to the fun for festival shoppers. The turnip contest was a very popular attraction, and we thank Willem Lange from NPR for judging all of the turnip entries. Thanks to all who entered the contest and to all those who grew turnips for the Friends to sell or cook up into tasty treats.
