To the Editor,

We hear all the time about “Town Fathers.” I would like to encourage a big shout out for “Town Mothers”, specifically Mary Jane Finnegan, our very own Valley -Town- Mother (she who came up with the idea of Twice Blessed whose proceeds go to fuel assistance in the valley). Thanks to Mary Jane (and her buddy Chris Bakridges), West River Habitat for Humanity came away from the Saturday jazz concert at Memorial Hall with a very tidy bundle of donated cash. Thank you; thank you.

This idea of a Saturday night jazz concert at Memorial Hall every single weekend all summer, proceeds donated to a different local charity, was Mary Jane’s idea. Every Saturday Chris Bakridges donates his talents. He invites friends of his to join the concert. This week’s concert was terrific. I don’t know about you, reader, but it would never occur to me to organize something like this. Thank you to all the folks who came to listen to Chris and who donated to Habitat. We are so lucky to live in a community like this with people like Chris and Mary Jane!
