WILMINGTON- Max C. Jarvis, 79, a resident of Ray Hill Road, died on August 12 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Mr. Jarvis was born on December 1, 1934, the son of Treffley N. and Grace (Crawford) Jarvis Sr. He attended Wilmington schools and graduated from Wilmington High School, class of 1953.

In his earlier years, Mr. Jarvis worked for Vermont National Bank and Taylor Insurance Company before owning and operating Barber and Jarvis Insurance Company. He was an antique dealer and repaired antique furniture, owning and operating The Etcetera Shop for many years.

Mr. Jarvis served as a member of the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the VFW at the Vermont state level, the American Legion in Wilmington, and was a former member of the Wilmington Lions Club. Mr. Jarvis enjoyed bowling and was on various teams at North Star Bowl for many years. He enjoyed fishing at Spofford Lake, NH, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Aimee.

Mr. Jarvis is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Harris, whom he married at the Centre Congregational Church of Brattleboro on September 2, 1961; children, Kyle Jarvis, of Whately, MA, and Kristin Jarvis, of Plainfield, CT; and his granddaughter, Aimee Jarvis, of Hatfield, MA. He was preceded in death by his siblings Treffley N. Jarvis Jr., Marjorie Crawford, Mary Comai, and Jane Tunis.

Funeral services for Mr. Jarvis will be held Monday, August 18, at 11am at Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral Home, 44 East Main Street, Wilmington, VT.

Interment will follow in the family lot in Riverview Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
