WARDSBORO- Ragna Thorsen Somme, 70, died Wednesday morning April 9, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Somme was born in Arendal, Norway, on August 10, 1943, the daughter of the late Albert and Ruth (Bugge) Thorsen. She came to the United States on January 14, 1963.

Mrs. Somme was a former member of the Sons of Norway in Croton Falls, NY, enjoyed gardening, watching sunsets at the ocean, skiing, baking, and time spent with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Berner Magnor Somme, whom she married on June 29, 1963, in Brooklyn, NY.

Mrs. Somme is survived by her daughter, Nancy O’Malley and her husband Ed, of Mahopac, NY; her son Michael Somme and his wife Kathryn, of Hopewell Junction, NY; her sister, Inger-Johanne Raundelen and husband Olaf, of Arendal, Norway; sisters-in-law, Malfrid Hervold, of West Wardsboro, Kari Olsen, Alles Sola, and Hellena Somme, of Norway; and her grandchildren, Craig, Alexandra, and triplets Tyler, Carter, and Julia.

Mrs. Somme was a very generous and caring individual who put others before herself and was ready to lend a helping hand however she was able to and when it was needed.

A celebration of the life of Mrs. Somme will be held Saturday, May 10, at 1 pm, at the Wardsboro Methodist Church. Rev. Peter Carlson will officiate. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours.

If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Wardsboro Methodist Church (c/o Allison Brown, PO Box 213, Wardsboro, VT 05355) or to Grace Cottage Hospital (PO Box 1, Townshend, VT 05353).
