LAKE PLACID, NY- This past week Sam Wallace, of Dover, VT, and his fellow Hobart and William Smith College ski team members competed in the USCSA National Championships held at Whiteface Ski Resort. HWS earned a spot to compete in the Nationals by winning the Mid-East Regional Championship at Bristol Mountain against teams such as Syracuse, Cornell, Colgate, and RPI. The team, comprising five men and five women, competed in both GS and slalom. On a day that challenged the skiers both physically and mentally the HWS’s men did something that no other HWS ski team has done, taking the bronze medal in giant slalom. HWS beat out last year’s silver and bronze teams to take the bronze this year. HWS next best finish in the Nationals was in 2012, placing 14th. Wallace was on that team as well.
Wallace is the son of Mark and Kristen Wallace, of East Dover, VT, co-owners of First Trax Sports Shop. Sam Wallace will be graduating in May with a double major in economics and Chinese.
