To the Editor:

We recently received notice that the Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) is replacing bridge number 59 in West Dover adjacent to the southern entrance to Blue Brook Road. The alternative route detouring traffic from VT Route 100 to Tannery Road, Handle Road, Coldbrook Road, back to VT Route 100 (10.4 miles end-to-end) is not a viable option in our opinion. The practical, economic, social, and life safety effects of this alternative would be staggering at the minimum, catastrophic at worst.

We have reviewed the Scoping Report and oppose closing down Route 100 for no less than one month. We understand that both Wilmington and Dover town governments can deny use of their secondary roads for this detour. It is our understanding that this decision would require the AOT to install a temporary bridge at this location, negating the need for this bypass. This would be done at no cost to the local communities. We support keeping Route 100 open and utilizing the temporary bridge option detailed in the report,
