DEERFIELD VALLEY- The Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Fanfare Brass Trio will present performances at elementary schools in Woodford, Readsboro, and Whitingham on May 10. The day has been made possible by the Turrell Fund.

Fanfare members Jason Whitcomb, trumpet, Joy Worland, French horn, and Lori Salimando, trombone, present a program called “Galactic Brass.” They play a variety of musical styles and demonstrate how the instruments produce their sounds and how each one has changed since its beginnings. This rave review from a school is typical: “Fanfare’s performance was entertaining, informative, and tuned in to the attention spans and interests of young children. Our students were a rapt audience, even on the day before vacation!”

These performances are part of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s statewide SymphonyKids education program, which reached over 23,000 schoolchildren last year with 203 presentations for 170 schools in 136 different communities. The VSO’s traveling ensembles visit all corners of the state as part of the VSO’s SymphonyKids outreach program. These performances are met with enthusiasm, as the musical ambassadors spread the word that classical music can be fun.
