WILMINGTON- The cause of a fire that ripped through a three-bay garage on Saturday afternoon has yet to be determined, but Wilmington Fire Chief Ken March has called the fire “nonsuspicious.”

The garage was detached from a residence at 185 Smith Road, and the fire caused no damage to the residence. Nobody was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

According to March, the fire department received an anonymous 911 call at approximately 1 pm, and upon arrival, the structure was already fully engulfed in flames. March says the department checked for anything explosive in the vicinity, and was able to set up a water supply quickly, as multiple water tankers arrived on scene. West Dover, East Dover, and Whitingham’s fire departments all responded to the scene as well. March says his department also took precautions to ensure that fighting the fire was safe in the cold weather.

Firefighters were on scene for just over two hours, and according to the department, multiple vehicles were destroyed inside the garage.
