Four former Twin Valley Wildcat girls’ varsity basketball players have continued their on-court careers, playing in the 2012-2013 seasons at their respective colleges, and two of them are in their school’s starting five.

Playing for the undefeated Castleton State College Spartans, senior Tarryn Bolognani, of Whitingham, has been flourishing this season, starting at the guard position. Bolognani is averaging 8.3 points per game in Castleton’s nine victories, (four in their North Atlantic Conference) including a 21-point, eight-rebound effort against Farmington earlier this season. Bolognani is carrying over her success of last year when she led the Spartans with 49 steals, was second on the team in rebounding with 135, and second in three-point field goals with 16. In the 2010-2011 season she ranked fourth on the team in points scored, and in 2009-2010, led all freshmen scoring with 6.5 points per game.

Wilmington native Devon Spirka is starting at guard for the Nichols College Bison, who are 3-5 on the year, and 0-2 in conference play. While the Bison have struggled so far, in their eight games Spirka has averaged 10 points, five rebounds, 4.8 assists, and three steals per game. In a one-point loss to Johnson & Wales, Spirka knocked down five three-point shots en route to a 19-point, five-rebound effort. Spirka had 18 points against Fitchburg, and 16 points, six assists, and six steals against Anna Maria.

Spirka is joined on the roster by West Dover native Kylie-blu Crawford, who, as a sophomore, has seen limited action, but recorded a rebound against Suffolk in her only time on the court so far.

Freshman Elizabeth Aekus, hailing from Whitingham, comes off the bench at guard for Colby College and has seen action in three games this season. In her best outing, Aekus recorded four points and two assists in just seven minutes against Southern Vermont College. Aekus is a former captain of Twin Valley’s soccer and basketball teams.
