Well, not really, at least not the kind that has made headlines in the past few months. There’s been much talk in the national media about fake news. It began during the 2016 election season, and really came to a head after Donald Trump was elected president. Most readers who follow national news know that claims of fake news, alternative facts, and spinning stories to suite someone’s view have become an ongoing war of words between the current administration and the media. It’s being done to the detriment of our political process, and has damaged the credibility of news organizations, social media web sites, and politicians.

However, The Deerfield Valley News has proudly been publishing fake news for more than a decade. It happens as part of our annual April Fools edition. The difference, of course, is that we aren’t out to trick anyone into believing that the stories published in our April Fools section have any basis in reality. We had our tongues squarely planted in our cheeks while writing the fake stories that appear on page A1 of this edition, just have we have done in years past.

Once a year, we’re proud to publish fake news. An we intend to continue doing so around April 1 for years to come. We hope readers enjoy our foolishness. And we hope we fooled a few along the way.
