DEERFIELD VALLEY- The Vermont Wine & Harvest Festival has been designated as one of North America’s Top 100 events by the American Bus Association, the only Vermont event to have made the list. This year’s festival takes place starting Thursday, September 21, through Sunday, September 24.

The Harvest Welcome kicks off the event on Thursday, September 21, from 2 to 4 pm, at the Cask & Kiln Kitchen, 4 North Main Street, Wilmington. There will be a social gathering and a tasting to welcome the attendees. For more information call (802) 464-2275.

The fun continues with the First Class Flight on Friday, September 22, from 2 to 4 pm, at the Cask & Kiln Kitchen, 4 North Main Street, Wilmington. Don’t miss this flight! This First Class Flight is going to knock your socks off with a tasting of rare and fine wines. For more information call (802) 464-2275. The fun doesn’t stop at 4 pm though. Take a stroll to the Wine Tasting and Soup Stroll from 5 to 7 pm, at the Southern Vermont Deerfield Valley Chamber of Commerce, 21 West Main, Wilmington. Stroll and sample 21 soups and 25 wines through the historic Wilminton Village along North and West Main streets. Taste and judge the gourmet soups provided by talented local chefs. Advance ticket check-in and ticket booth will open at 4 pm. The wines and soups will be available for tasting at 5 pm. The Soup Stroll tickets are $5 per person. Mount Snow hosts the grand tasting of the ninth annual Vermont Wine and Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 23, from 10 am to 5 pm. This signature event is set in the backdrop of world-renowned Vermont fall foliage. Attendees of the Vermont Wine & Harvest Festival will discover, savor, and enjoy Vermont vintners, small specialty food producers, chefs, painters, publishers, cheese makers, potters, jewelers, photographers, and farmers. There are over 70 vendors. Some vendors will be pouring wines and spirits, including Honora Winery, North Branch Vineyards, Caledonia Spirits, Vermont Spirits Distillery, Whistle Pig, and many more. Others will be displaying and selling their paintings, woodworking, and jewelry. Get a head start on that holiday shopping with unique one-of-a-kind items. This year, 802 Coffee will be there to keep you warm and energized. Don’t miss the live music provided by local entertainers playing everything from blues to rock and folk, including the Legato Blues Band, Janet Ryan, and Groove Prophet. Take a break from the tents and go for a ride on the Bluebird Lift, check out the scenery, and enjoy the beauty of the valley from atop the mountain.

The day doesn’t end there. There are a few meal options available for Saturday night. Shelburne Farm will hold a wine pairing dinner from 6 to 9 pm, at The White House Inn, 178 Vermont Route 9, Wilmington. Contact the White House Inn directly to make reservations at (802) 464-2135. Seats are limited for the tasting dinner.

North Branch Vineyards will pair with a dinner at The Deerhill Inn, 14 Valley View Road, West Dover, on Saturday, September 23, from 6 to 8:30 pm. Once again, the Deerhill Inn is featuring a selection of wines from award-winning, family-owned and operated Vermont wine-maker North Branch Vineyards, paired with four delicious courses of seasonally-inspired, locally-sourced dishes. Seasoned winemaker John McCann will be present during this event to visit tables and talk about the award-winning cold-climate wines and his own journey as a winemaker. The four-course dinner costs $96 for the prix fixe menu with paired wines per course.

Or pig out at an all-you-can-eat barbecue with live music on Saturday, September 23, from 4 to 9 pm, at the Dover Forge & OMT, 183 Route 100, West Dover with all-you-can-eat ribs, pulled pork, bacon-wrapped smoked meatloaf, mac ‘n’ cheese, and corn on the cob. There will be live music with Guilty Pleasures starting at 4 pm. Price is $26 per person. For information call (802) 780-0169.

Restaurant Relay, a new event, will be on Sunday, September 24, from 11 am to 3 pm, at the Valley Trail, West Dover. This fun event is a restaurant-themed obstacle course for teams of four. The fastest team wins $1,000. Check in at Dover Forge & OMT, West Dover. To enter call (802) 464-8092.

Join the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum for the seventh annual Vermont Wildlife Festival on Sunday, September 24, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the Mount Snow base lodge. This year’s event will feature a live wolf, birds of prey, native and exotic reptiles, and hands-on exhibits by representatives of Vermont Fish and Wildlife, the National Park Service, local environmental groups, the Deerfield Valley Sportsmens’ Club, Ascutney Audubon Society, watershed and animal rescue groups, and so much more. Check out live animals, kids activities, guided walks and talks, and the beauty of Mount Snow in the fall. This is a free event aimed at the whole family and all who enjoy the nature of Vermont.
