The former Twin Valley and Wilmington high school has been the scene of much activity this winter and we wanted to update the public about our plans for the spring and the rest of 2018. We are very grateful for the financial support from Wilmington’s 1% option tax fund that will allow us to repair or replace the leaking roof and for the Wilmington Fund’s grant to replace the south-side entryway. We are continuing the sale of engraved pavers for the entry walkway and plan to complete that project this spring and summer.
The newly-replaced gym lights have brightened the gym tremendously and use of the gym increases weekly. During the recent school vacation week, the Wings program hosted over a hundred students and families for two days of indoor activities.
Wilmington’s adult recreation programs of pickleball, indoor soccer and volleyball occur weekly. Pickleball alone draws over 20 players on four mornings each week. The pickleball tournament in late January drew talented players from the region and resulted in a donation of $800. A second tournament is planned for May 19.
Basketball teams from both Twin Valley Middle High School and Valley Youth Sports have used the gym all winter and demonstrate the demand for indoor gym space. We have a variety of office spaces available for lease and are happy to meet with prospective tenants for a tour. We continue to apply for grants for renovations and, in the meantime, the old school is alive with activity.
