The event lasted a full 24 hours, kicking off at noon on Saturday and finishing at noon on Sunday. More than 320 skiers and riders joined 38 teams to ski, ride and raise money for the Stratton Foundation.
The path to victory? “Just ski fast!” suggested teammates of the second-place finishers, the Maniacal Mustaches. Teams also planned skiing shifts and smooth bib handoffs, while some just enjoyed the unusual experience of night skiing.
Teams consisted of 6 to 12 people, each competing to rack up the most vertical feet for themselves and their teams. Only two teammates were allowed on the hill at once, but there was plenty to do during breaks: music from Twiddle, Jeff Tuohy and DJ Joe Bell, family games and activities in the base lodge and a movie marathon.
The top team – the “Norse House” – racked up 282,016 vertical feet, followed closely by the “Maniacal Mustaches” with 279,020 vertical feet and Team GDF (Go Down Fast) with 274,596 feet.
Christopher Patti topped the individual vertical count with a total of 81,984 feet skied, beating out the next competitor by 16,884 feet.
