Recent Mount Snow policy is ambiguous

Mount Snow is about to start a major renovations project which will bring jobs and opportunity to the valley. I believe the valley will generally benefit from the investment. I know several management people, workers and volunteers at Mount Snow including Kelly Pawlak. I do not believe the management purposefully created intended conflict or employment issues in the valley, but their recent policy announcement is ambiguous. I would assume there must have been scheduling conflicts this season that caused issues with seasonal employees but I have no knowledge of such events. I would loosely assume the Mount Snow ambassadors and workers may be restricted from similar positions at Haystack but this is not clear in the published Human Resources memo.

I can understand the noncompete clause with workers having another job if there is intellectual property or business processes that are proprietary and that might be considered competitive. Job responsibilities that are mundane-service oriented such as parking lot attendants should not be so restrictive. What I really cannot understand is the restriction on volunteer positions. I question the legality and legitimacy of Mount Snow/Peak Resorts’ position on volunteers. Mount Snow / Peak Resorts needs to provide further details regarding volunteering and I suggest removing this restriction.

Multiple members of my family have worked at Mount Snow for several years and we participate as volunteers in community events at several regional locations. To have one of my family members lose their winter seasonal job at Mount Snow because they volunteer for a cancer fundraiser at the Haystack Golf Club this summer seems excessive. I hope that Mount Snow / Peak Resorts reconsiders their position on these matters.
