Mr. Rix worked as a machinist for various companies over the years, just recently retiring. He was a member of the Readsboro Lions Club and the Sons of the American Legion in Readsboro. Mr. Rix was a caring, loving man. He loved the outdoors and was very talented with his hands. He loved animals, especially his dog Chance. He could sit on his porch and the “tweety birds” would come to feed out of his hand. If someone needed a favor, they could ask Nelson. Others came first. He would go out of his way to make it happen.
Mr. Rix always had a kind word for most, and was a collector of many things. He had a great sense of humor and a way with words that sometimes left people dumbfounded. He is survived by and had a great love for his sister, Deborah Dion, and her husband Phil; his niece Angela, and her husband Nick; great-niece Madeline; niece Laurinda and her significant other, Ryan; and “the love of his life,” girlfriend Ellen Comai and their quirky relationship. He is also survived by many friends including his closest friend Chris Ellison, whom he loved like a brother.
A celebration of the life of Mr. Rix will be held Sunday, January 7, at 1:30 pm, at the American Legion in Readsboro. There are no calling hours.
