This year’s theme, “Around the World,” invited local businesses, nonprofit, and service organizations in Bennington and surrounding communities to explore their creativity as they designed and created their vignettes. Over 20 vignettes are being created for the entire family to enjoy, along with the traditional trees installed in the galleries. Then are the over 40 tabletop trees, each decorated by elementary school classes from Bennington and surrounding communities. Vote for your favorite setting and tree among the vignettes, and see if it wins the “Best of the Fest” to be announced at “Afterglow,” a holiday dance party on December 21.
Family day and children’s shopping day is on Saturday, November 24, from 10 am to 5 pm. Be among the first to see the community-created vignettes that fill the changing exhibition galleries, and enjoy the museum while it’s all dressed up for the holiday season. Admission to the museum is $1 for everyone (even Santa) on family day. Any child that brings to the museum a nonperishable item for the “Tree of Thanks” is admitted at no charge. Especially needed are personal care items. The discount applies to those under 18 only, but adults are welcome to bring a donation too. This year these items will be going to The Kitchen Cupboard, a food distribution program of the Greater Bennington Interfaith Community Services Inc.
Enjoy craft activities, snacks, and more. Visit with Santa from 1 to 3 pm. Enjoy story time, crafts, snacks, and more. Some activities require a small additional fee, up to $3, but many are free.
Children ages 4 to 12 are invited to do their holiday shopping with the museum. On hand are shoppers’ helpers to help children pick out presents for all their friends and family members. Gifts range in price from $1 to $7, and gift tags and wrapping are included. Adults can go shopping too. Specializing in Vermont-made products, the Museum Shop offers unique items not found at other locations.
The museum is located at 75 Main Street. Visit www.benningtonmuseum.org or call (802) 447-1571 for more information.
