NORTH BENNINGTON- It’s time to make vacation plans. February school break is right around the corner, and April vacation week will be here soon. But there’s still time to make sure a child has a fun, inspiring time immersed in the arts.

Explore cartooning, caricature, and scroll painting in 2D art camp with artist-instructor Andrew Davis. Campers ages 8 to 12 will enjoy drawing in pencil and ink, painting in acrylic and watercolor, and working with conventional and unconventional materials and techniques — all while creating fun characters and environments such as fantasy, science fiction, and more. Classes are February 18-22 and April 15-19, from 10 am to 4 pm; tuition is $185 per week.

Discover the magic of animation during February vacation week with artist-instructor Zerabruk Cavallero. In animation camp, students ages 8 to 12 learn stop-motion animation using a variety of materials — clay, paper cutouts, line drawing, found objects, and physical animations. Campers will watch short animations, learn a variety of animation techniques, develop storyboard ideas, create art for their films, learn to operate the cameras, and create a short film of the final animations and the creative process behind the scenes. Each student will receive an edited DVD of the final animation video. February 18-22, 10 am to 4 pm; tuition is $200.

VAE’s Open Studio Art Camp is one of VAE’s most popular and fun programs. With artist-instructor Ann Webster-Lang, students ages 6 to 12 are exposed to a wide variety of materials, tools, and supplies not often found in other art programs. Campers get the chance to work both individually and in groups, and are encouraged to try new things. As campers work at their own pace throughout the week, structured activities and themes act as guides and freedom of expression is urged. Art campers will work with wood shop tools, mixed media and recycled material, plaster, wood, and fiber. They will draw and paint with acrylic, watercolor, the oil pastel, and chalk pastel. Weather permitting they will explore the VAE grounds, “outdoor studio.” February 18 to 22 and April 15 to 19, 10 am to 4 pm; tuition is $185 per week.

Students discover the art of hip-hop dance and learn choreography techniques in VAE’s Half-Day Hip-Hop Camp with artist-instructor Allyson Hoffman, with February vacation week sessions for ages 5-7 in the morning and ages 8-11 in the afternoon. Other fun camp activities are incorporated into the daily schedule, and all campers receive a CD of all songs. Morning campers hold a dance performance on Friday, February 22, at 12:30 pm, while afternoon campers take the stage at 3:30 pm. February 18-22, 10 am to 1 pm for ages 5 to 7, 1 to 4 pm for ages 8 to 11; tuition is $100 each session.
