The weekend kicks off with a running start on Saturday morning at the fifth annual Gulp and Gallop 5K. This fun race is designed for “athletic beer drinkers” featuring four laps around the base area, with racers downing a glass of beer between laps. Registration is available online and check-in opens at 8:30 am on Saturday with the race starting at 9 am.
In addition to traditional Oktoberfest staples, such as seasonal beer offerings from more than 25 different German and domestic breweries and authentic German food, there will be plenty of games and activities such as a keg toss, yodeling contest, and a horseshoe tournament. This event has something for the whole family, complete with a kids zone where families can find festival games like beanbag toss, a bouncy house, pumpkin painting, and other kid-friendly activities. New this year will be the touch-a-truck event, allowing kids a chance to climb around and sit in some of the largest machinery Mount Snow and the West Dover Fire Department have, including a ladder truck, front end loader, dump truck, and of course a snow cat.
With Oktoberfest corresponding with peak fall foliage season, the Bluebird Express will also be open each day of the festival for scenic rides to the summit, where additional German beer and snacks can be found at The Bullwheel.
For shoppers looking to get a jump on the holiday rush the 44th annual Harvest Arts & Crafts Show will also be open in the main base lodge from 10 am to 5 pm both days of Oktoberfest.
