Freeskier Ali Perotti (Canaan, CT) took the gold among Skier Women (ages 16-18) in the slopestyle on Saturday. Perotti has qualified for the Freeski Junior Nationals, and leaves at the end of this week for that competition in Park City, Utah. Teammate Chris Frulla (West Simsbury, CT) placed second among Skier Men.
Most of the snowboarders competed in both the slopestyle events on Saturday and the halfpipe the following day. Among Junior Men (ages 16-17), Max Lyons (Marlboro) placed first in slope and second in pipe, barely edging ahead of David McCarthy (Pawling, NY), who took third in slope and first in the pipe. Jon Zaccheo (East Dorset) placed sixth in slopestyle and did not compete on Sunday. Brett Sikora (Manchester) took fifth place in the pipe and did not compete on Saturday.
In the Youth age division (14-15 years), Mary Pettit (Southport, CT) placed second in the pipe among women in her first return after a short time on the injury roster. Ryan Gormley ((Wyckoff, NJ) got the number nine spot in slopestyle but moved up to number six in the pipe. Caleb Kamins ((Litchfield, CT) did not compete on Saturday due to an injury, and placed 10th in the pipe on Sunday.
In the Breaker Girls group (ages 12 and 13), Sari Richards (New Paltz, NY) took second in slopestyle and fourth in the pipe, swapping spots with teammate Ali Hsueh (Closter, NJ), who got fourth in slopestyle and took second in the pipe.
The younger alpine skiers also had a busy weekend. The U14 racers were at Stratton for the Super G that marked the final Southern Vermont Council race of the season. Alex Welter (Babylon, NY) took sixth and Danie Edwards (Stamford, CT) 10th, which means that both have qualified to compete in the state championships. Leah Montello (Stamford, CT) came in 16th. Although she missed championship eligibility in a heartbreaking tie, this leaves her in first place for the Shootout which will be held next Sunday at Bromley. In the U12 division, Ariana Welter (Babylon, NY) came in sixth in a giant slalom at Mount Snow on Sunday.
