WSWMD residents are encouraged to take part in the hazardous waste collection, which will be held on Saturday, May 20, from 8 am to 12 pm, at the Dover Transfer Station, 11 Landfill Road.
There is a fee of $5 and a limit of 10 gallons of hazardous waste per household. The collection is open to all WSWMD residents and businesses. Businesses may participate in the collection for a fee. Registration is required for businesses only.
Household-generated products that will be accepted include: roofing tar, varnishes, paint strippers/thinners, automotive fluids, car wax, driveway sealer, pool chemicals, chemical fertilizers, weed killers, pesticides, insecticides, spot removers, bleach, polishes, drain/toilet cleaners, mothballs, and flea control products. Unacceptable items include explosives, ammunition, fireworks, radioactive waste, electronic waste, medical waste, empty containers, fluorescent bulbs, and latex paint.
Residents are encouraged not to bring paint products, such as primers, sealers, stains, enamels, varnishes, and oil-based and latex paints to the hazardous waste event, but instead to the year-round WSWMD drop-off center on Old Ferry Road, Brattleboro. Additional collections will be held in November.
