Dover- Arthur H. Lockwood Jr., 78, died on Wednesday, September 13, after a long illness, in the comfort of his home with his wife and daughter.

Mr. Lockwood was born on February 9, 1939, in Springfield, to Arthur H. Lockwood Sr. and Gertrude (Eagan) Lockwood. He was raised on the family farm on the Sketchewach Trail. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1957.

Mr. Lockwood trained as an offset printer and platemaker in Hartford, CT, and lived in Enfield, CT, for a number of years. He also worked many years at Mount Snow, and most recently at the River Valley Market in Wilmington.

Mr. Lockwood will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He cherished his family, loved the woods, fishing, nature, photography, the Red Sox and cat, Belle. He was a licensed pilot and loved flying with friends and family.

He was married to Kathleen (Dwyer) Lockwood in 1985. The ceremony was conducted in an aerial wedding high above the Deerfield Valley. He leaves his wife, Kathy; children, Gregory (Darlene) Lockwood, of Shaftsbury; Kathy (Keith) Tatro, of Bennington; and Judy Lockwood, of Hudson, FL; and stepchildren, Donna (Floyd) Skidmore, of Arlington, Tina (Scott) Gabert, of Sunderland, and Steven Smith, of Bennington. His grandchildren include Rebecca (Jerry) Elliott, Kristen (Kevin) Dunican, Kenneth Johnston, and Jason, Marissa, and Gregory Edwards.

He is survived by siblings, Ronald (Tinah) Lockwood, Allen Lockwood, Barbara (Theodore) Thomas, and Patricia (James) Kenyon. He was preceded in death by siblings, Francis, Raymond, and Richard Lockwood and Lorraine Clay.

He leaves many great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 23, at 2:15 pm at the Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:15 until 2:15 pm. Following the service, the family invites everyone to join them at the Dover Forge for a memorial reception. Private burial will take place in the Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Windham County Humane Society or Deerfield Valley Rescue Squad in care of Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363.
