WILMINGTON- The weather cooperated with Mount Snow Adaptive Sports, at Harriman Reservoir on Saturday, August 12, with a crew from Northeast Passage from the University of New Hampshire and a group of 12 participants with various physical and developmental challenges. By using specially adapted equipment, the skiers sat in hand-constructed seats mounted on wakeboards and slalom skis or regular skis and waterskied around the lake. Each skier was followed by a pair of instructors on a personal watercraft as well as two instructors watching from the tow boat, along with family, to ensure their safety.
Mount Snow Adaptive Sports, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, provides ski and snowboard instruction in winter to people with disabilities regardless of their financial ability. MSAS sponsors a Special Olympics team that competes yearly in the Vermont Special Olympics Winter Games and its athletes are consistently among the top medal winners. A number of those athletes are from the Wilmington and Brattleboro area.
