“We thought that everyone loves dogs, so why not have a dog event here in downtown Wilmington,” said Jones. “This will be a fun filled event where everyone in your family can attend, including your leashed four-legged friend.”
The event will include demonstrations, including dog dancing, agility try-outs, dog tricks, nose work, police K-9 units and first aid. There will be vendors on hand for dogs and humans alike, serving homemade dog treats and hot dogs and lemonade, as well as fun booths such as dog-themed face painting.
Other booths will provide information on the humane society and collie and boxer rescue, as well as employment of therapy dogs, sled dogs, and dog-friendly hiking guides.
“I have been involved in different dog events with my Australian shepherds for the last 13 years, ranging from agility to obedience,” said Jones, “So why not have a day filled with a small sampling of different activities you can do with your dogs.”
Besides hanging out with their fellow tail-waggers, the pooches will be given a blessing, and participate in a parade. At the end of the day there will be also be a dog show where an array of ribbons will be given out from dog with the fluffiest tail to dog with the best trick.
The event is being sponsored by Wilmington Works and the town of Wilmington.
