BRATTLEBORO - Priscilla Orne, 84, died on Friday, June 14, at Vernon Green Nursing Home in Vernon.

Mrs. Orne was born in Wilmington on November 12, 1928, the daughter of Gerald H. Jacobs and Bertha (Haskins) Jacobs. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School.

She was employed by the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company as a service representative for 34 years, during which time she worked in their offices in Brattleboro, Rutland, and White River Junction. She retired from that position in 1977, following the closure of the Brattleboro office. She then worked in the sales department of the Town Crier newspaper in Brattleboro until 1994, and subsequently did volunteer work for several agencies in Brattleboro.

Mrs. Orne was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Sebastian Miniatures Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the First United Methodist Church.

She married Carlton J. Orne on April 30, 1977, in Wilmington. He died in 1995.

Mrs. Orne was predeceased by a sister, June J. Anderson. She leaves a brother, Dr. Gerald H. Jacobs, and a sister-in-law, Christine Allen, of Santa Barbara, CA; a dear friend and companion, Reita Lashway, of Guilford; as well as many other friends in Brattleboro and the vicinity. She will be remembered as a strong and independent woman who was unfailingly polite and friendly. She will be missed deeply by all.

At her request there will be no formal services. A Prayer of Remembrance was offered Sunday, June 23, at the First United Methodist Church.
