NORTHFIELD FALLS- Lena Ellen (Lowe) Comai, 83, formerly of 161 Depot Street in Readsboro, died Sunday, January 27, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home. She was born in Readsboro on June 9, 1929, the daughter of Harry Leroy Lowe Sr. and Ellen Alinda (Berard) Lowe. She attended school in Readsboro and graduated from St. Joseph High School in North Adams, MA, with the class of 1947.
Mrs. Comai worked for the Readsboro Chair Shop for a few years before going to work as a telephone operator with the New England Telephone Company in North Adams and Pittsfield, MA. After she married, Mrs. Comai continued her employment with the Readsboro Chair Shop and successors until it closed.
Mrs. Comai was last employed at the Readsboro Post Office as a substitute rural mail carrier, and at Mount Snow Resort until her retirement in 1995. She was a communicant of St. Joachim’s Church of Readsboro. She was a member of the St. Anne Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 29 where she served as president for 20 years.
She married widower Rizieri Randolph Comai on August 25, 1956, in St. Joachim’s Church.
Survivors include daughters, Sheila Jones and her husband James of Northfield Falls, and Kathy Hiehle and her husband Greg, of Redondo Beach, CA; sons, Roudolf Comai and his wife Madeline, of Readsboro, and Rizieri Comai and Joelle Barrows, of Saxtons River; daughter-in-law Ellen Comai, of Cary, NC; and son-in-law, Richard Colo, of Readsboro; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and two sisters, Ina Guardyak, of Wauconda, IL, and Agnes Dalmaso, of Solvay, NY.
She was predeceased by a brother, Harry L. Lowe Jr.,a daughter, Julia Ann Comai Colo, and a son, Dennis Comai.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday February 9, at 11 am at St. Joachim’s Church. Burial will be in the spring in Village Cemetery.
